Super solid Tiger finished in Carnival Red and fitted with upgraded early Ford 289ci V8-4bbl with Hi-Po heads and dual point distributor, 4-speed top loader, front disc brakes, Koni shocks, several LAT upgrade options including desired 13 alloy wheels & vented fiberglass hood! Showing only 70,900 miles on the odometer and recently serviced for immediate enjoyment! Remarkably fast and responsive!
With the sale of the Rootes Group Sunbeam Alpine positioned as a fine touring automobile, Southern California Sunbeam-Talbot sales manager, Ian Garrad, needed to offer a product more suited for sports car enthusiasts often visiting their showrooms. Efforts to build a car that could attract these young, performance minded individuals went to successful design and performance team, Shelby American! It was already well known that they could shoe-horn V8 horsepower into just about anything you asked them to, so the Ford 260ci V8 was selected for its size and ample power output. It was tucked into the small English chassis with only a few refinements to the engine bay and firewall, and a baby Cobra was born with the official name, Sunbeam Tiger! The Mark IA, a revised vision of the original, was produced from August 1965 through September 1966 with production totaling just 2,706 units.
Finished in popular Carnival Red over black interior, this stunning 1966 Sunbeam Tiger is in remarkable condition! Under the hood lies an upgraded, early Ford 289ci V8 fitted with many Hi-Po goodies mated to the top loader 4-speed manual transmission (HEHE code)gripping the ground through a 2.88 rear end! Options include upgraded LAT aluminum Tiger Power by Ford intake, Holley 600cfm 4-barrel carburetor, LAT Tiger Powered by Ford finned aluminum valve covers, LAT 13 alloy wheels with white letter radial tires, LAT hood scoop with vents, Koni shocks, 6-blade cooling fan, original burled walnut dash, Smiths electric clock, mahogany steering wheel shift handle, Jaeger instrumentation, locking center console, Girling front disc brakes, braided stainless steel brake lines, Talbot-style rearview mirrors, windshield washer, bolt-in loop roll bar, rubber Sunbeam Tiger rubber mats, and soft boot cover!
This car began life as an Embassy Black example and later repainted to the code 39- Carnival Red more recently. The interior is believed to be all original. The odometer reads 70,969 miles today which may be accurate from new based on the overall caliber of the car, but we will be selling it mileage exempt. Upon arrival to our showcase, the Museums service department changed the engine oil filter, replaced the engine air filter, new coolant, fresh thermostat gasket, rebuilt the generator, installed a new complete stainless steel exhaust system with polished tips, replaced the heater hoses, and installed a new v-belt, transmission mount, fresh battery in the trunk along with new package tray hardware.
Originally listed in the Norman Millers Tiger registry in February 1991. It was last titled out of Mesa, Arizona when we acquired it. Its remarkably well cared for, super quick responsive, and ready to enjoy immediately! Cars of this caliber are rare, and continuing to rise in value even in a slow market.
Note: This example is titled as a 1967 model year. Act quickly, and please feel welcome to call with additional questions! Thanks for looking!
